The objective of this project, titled Design of Autonomous Surface Vehicle, is to do design the hardware of the WAM-V Unmanned Surface Vehicle (WAM-V USV) for the upcoming 2018 Maritime RobotX Challenge, a biennial regional competition gathering teams from Pacific Rim nations, organized by Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI). The performance of the autonomous surface vehicle(ASV) in 2016 Maritime RobotX Challenge was not satisfying; the autonomous surface vehicle lacked maneuverability, accessibility for maintenance and capabilities to complete certain tasks for the challenge. This project aims at upgrading the autonomous surface vehicle performance through platform design. In this project, the author identified the areas for improvement of the surface vehicle and redesigned the targeted areas. However, by the time of writing this report, the competition team has not yet formed, and new purchasing parts are waiting for approval. Assembly of the designed parts would need to be taken over by the 2018 Maritime RobotX Challenge team. It is hoped this project will ease the work 2018 Maritime RobotX Challenge team by providing the team a platform design with comprehensive considerations, and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore will achieve satisfying results in the upcoming competition.
