Design of V2X simulation systems

With the rapid development in automation, wireless communication, and high-speed computing, V2X is proposed to promote the development of autonomous vehicles. Specifically, vehicle platooning is a hot research topic in the vehicle automatic path planning. In this dissertation, we integrate VISSIM, NS3, and MATLAB to analyze different platooning strategies and communication protocols in platoon merging, where VISSIM-COM and TCP/IP sockets are used to create bridge between VISSIM and NS3 with MATLAB. Then we focus on the network design in NS3, and illustrate the states and results of platoon merge and split maneuvers. We use a model of the WSMP protocol for communication where we also simulate switching between CCH and SCH as that is the only way for single-channel receiver to access both CCH and SCH. Thus, we analyze the packet queuing scenario and the packet dropping status. Furthermore, to build a more crowded communication environment, all platoon members are simulated to periodically broadcast with their vehicle parameters in CCH. Therefore, in the simulations, platoon merging communication is carried out simultaneously with the platoon BSM broadcasts. Finally, we focus on three types of merging maneuver in the presence of different channel switching periods and broadcast schedules and analyze the vehicle speed and their packet delivery.
