      Abstract
The world is currently grappling with the issue of big data management, optical communication provides a great solution for this issue. Optical communication has been the center of innovative solution to resolve wide area communication technology. As DWDM technology was one of the modern breakthrough of the recent century, there are many issue currently faced by the multiplexing technique. The main concerns of the current optical system are operation costs, reliability and robustness of the system and the flexibility for possible future expansion plans. The issues faced in the current system can be from the design component of the optical communication. The design of the optical communication system is robust enough to manage the current capability but this cannot be said for the future demands. This report aims to describe the various research efforts done in the components of optical communication. Starting from the innovative laser source to the larger topology management of the DWDM network, this report aims to provide some insights on the solutions various studies have done to tackle the issues to the best of the technologies we have today. This report aims to summarize and encompass the detailed comparison of other multiplexing techniques and other related the various theories and understanding required to further explore the possibility of enhancing the optical communication system.
