The Butcher’s Wife by Li Ang is known as one of classic feminist works, it reveals and criticizes the oppression of women under patriarchal. This dissertation studies the English Version of The Butcher’s Wife on the perspective of feminist translation criticism, and focuses on the embodiment of translator’s gender consciousness in the translated works; Whether the English translators agree with Li’s feminist views, and what translation strategies they have adopted to strengthen or weaken the voices of women. This paper chooses some typical examples and corresponding English translations, to carry on the feminist translation criticism through the analysis of vocabularies, sentences and sentence structure. This paper holds that the English translators of The Butcher’s Wife have a certain degree of gender consciousness, and generally agree with the author’s feminist views. Translators have adopted the strategies of supplementing and hijacking to strengthen voices of women and to criticize patriarchy.
