dc.description.abstractThis project is a part of a laboratory-based experiment for developing a new experimental technique in anti-submarine warfare. Instead of the traditional sonar method, the new experimental technique is aimed to use a Laser Doppler Vibrometer (LDV) to detect underwater movement. The scope of this project is to develop an experimental water column to test and compare the underwater sound generation and characterization between theoretic and realistic situations. This report will review the previous literature about acoustic signal, acoustic-optic sensing, sound reflection and standing wave principles, as well as the design and development of a specific water column. After that, the test, measurement and analysis based on the developed water column will be discussed. The result indicates the graphs summarized are something akin to the sine waves while the main deviation to notice is the curve does not really reach zero at the points it should be. As the anti-submarine system is to generate a laser beam vertically towards the sea surface, there must be correction algorithm to improve the accuracy.en_US
