Despite recurring pleas from practitioners for greater "soft skills" among information systems (I/S) professionals, very little research has systematically examined exactly what comprises soft skills, and what soft skills are required of the profession. This study develops the concept of soft skills by anchoring on the research of Wagner and Sternberg (1985, 1986). This study develops a framework to describe the nature of soft skills. Soft skills are defined as intrapersonal and interpersonal strategies in managing situations at work. The dimensions of soft skills are managing tasks; managing career; managing self; managing others.
