Abstract
Personal mobility devices are increasingly viewed as solutions to transportation problems faced by commuters and policymakers today. Environmentally friendly, portable, yet powerful, the electric scooter helps commuters with the first and last mile of their journeys. This reports discuss the design and manufacturing of a folding electric scooter that is able to suit market needs.
In this project, an electric scooter that meets Singapore’s regulatory restrictions on scooters was developed. In addition, the design was further conceptualized to be specifically appropriate for air travel. Most personal mobility devices are banned onboard aircrafts due to aviation standards; however, the scooter designed in this project not only complies with Federal Aviation Authority regulations, but also fits in a carry-on suitcase. This is useful for travelers who wish to bring their scooters along on their trips.
