Issues such as global warming and productivity are two major concern in today’s society. Especially true for productivity due to labour shortage in Singapore context. Given that population growth continues to increase over the years, this will have an impact on shipping activities. Much literatures review have researched on topic such as routing and scheduling of container handling equipment to improve productivity. However, nothing much has been done on exploring innovation of forklifts with respect to the cost, power consumption and emission reduction rate in order to enhance productivity as well as to achieve sustainable practices. With such research gap, this research paper acts as a foundation to collate relevant information with regards to the three factors with the intention of evaluating them to build the next smart generation container port. Furthermore, a simulation scenario testing will also be prepared to form the correlation analysis between power consumption and the other two factor as data are limited due to confidentiality. The result reveals that by exploring innovative ideas such as using new approach of combining both electricity and autonomous instead of the traditional approach of combining diesel and manned, it greatly improves the productivity level alongside with reduction of emission rate. For future research, researchers may utilise this existing findings and improved the results by incorporating other factors in the simulation testing such as increasing in loading capacity and varying the speed of the equipment which may affects the result findings.
