dc.description.abstractThe increasing global electricity consumption results in a series of global warming issues. As such, people attempt to replace non-renewable resources with renewable resources to conserve the environment. More and more renewable resources are integrated into the modern transmission system to meet the expanding load demand. Despite the low electricity generation cost and the clean energy production, renewable resources may inflict negative impacts to the system. This project uses a 4-bus system to simulate and investigate the impact of integration of renewable resources in the transmission system. The system uses Direct Current Optimal Power Flow (DC OPF) model as the backbone for simulation and calculation. There are three main scenarios to be examined, namely transmission constraint, load variation and contingent event. The simulation results show that low penetration level of renewable resources does not result in any negative impact to the system, whereas high renewable penetration causes the system to be unstable.en_US
