The energy demands and requirements of the modern society are ever increasing. High power electronics with high efficiency and safe operational features have paved the way to meet such high critical demand. With higher consumption of depleting fossil fuels, the percentage amount of CO2 is increasing at a steep rate. Transportation sector is one of the highest in terms of CO2 emissions. In order to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels, the power system could be made more efficient while integrating renewable energy. Power conversion systems play an important role in power system operations by connecting the end users to grid. Transportation industry requires the power conversion systems to be highly efficient, compact and light weight. Fundamental innovations in terms of configurational and operational changes are required in existing power electronic conversion systems to achieve such technological edge. The research work presented in this thesis attempts to provide one such solution.
