dc.description.abstractWith the rapid advancement of mobile technology and the global wireless internet connectivity, this has enabled people to have a convenient and instant access to information without having to depend on their notebook or personal computer. The widespread adoption of smartphones into our daily lives is increasingly common across the globe. Today, in the smartphone industry, Android garners 81% of the global smartphone market share. Thus, globally, more people are accessing the internet using Android as their primary device operating system. Currently, students of the School of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) can only access the Online Tutor for Engineering Students software (OnTEn) through specific web browsers such as Google Chrome and Firefox on their smartphones. The proposed idea to develop an online learning management system on android is aimed to allow more students to access the OnTEn on their Android smartphones. For this project, the author firmly believes the need to develop the OnTEn learning platform from a web-service platform to a dedicated Android App to facilitate consistence of content delivery and to provide streamlined navigation for students. The aim of the project is to create a student-friendly graphical user interface as well as an easy-to-navigate slide-in-menu on the Android App for students of School of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Nanyang Technological University. The features of the OnTEn Android App can also be upgraded, so as to adapt to the needs of the growing population of smartphones users in NTU.en_US
