This research paper discusses Toni Morrison's intuitive uses of magic realism in her novel Beloved to adequately articulate the African American experience during and post slavery. In doing so, she demonstrates that it is possible for African Americans to acknowledge their past without dredging up the painful emotions associated with these memories.
