Food sustainability : a study on vertical farming in Singapore

Singapore is a small island-nation with a population of more than 5 million. Feeding the nation is no easy task. Singapore has resorted to high amounts of food imports to meet the demand for food. This makes Singapore extremely susceptible to global economic, political, social and environmental forces. A small group of Singaporeans have started vertical farming as a means to increase Singapore’s food security, and at the same time, doing so in a sustainable manner. This project aims to explore how the technologies used in vertical farming is a sustainable method of food production, and the benefits that society gets from vertical farming.
