Understanding the effects of class and capital on Chinese undergraduates' educational experiences through a life course perspective

This study seeks to understand how class and capital has influenced undergraduates’ educational experiences leading up to university, through qualitative interviews about past and current education experiences. Their experiences signify an access or lack of access to economic, cultural and social capital that opens or limits opportunities to other education experiences. The life course perspective will be used to understand how access to various forms of capital in their early education years will influence education experiences in later stages of education. This study explores how access to these forms of capital by local Chinese undergraduates is a large factor in their ability to have a university education.
