      Abstract
With high efficiency, economy and safety, the Generation IV nuclear reactors were proposed for the near future power plant designs. Supercritical water cooled reactor (SCWR) is direct upgrade version of Generation III water cooled reactors. Different SCWR designs were chosen by different countries based on their existing experience. SCWR can be used as in power plant as well as submarine for most submarine's reactors are pressurized water reactors (PWR) which are most relevant with SCWR in Generation III type. Qualitative analysis of existed SCWR conception designs was conducted based on fundamental nuclear physics and thermodynamic principles. A review of the existing SCWR designs was accomplished. Some comparisons of these designs were conducted. Based on the summary of some special requirements of submarines, a best suitable SCWR design for submarines was proposed. The verification of this design needs further quantitative analysis and experiments.
