Design and development of electromagnetic models for wireless charging of electrical vehicles

Electric vehicles (EVs) have been playing an important role recently, because of rising oil prices and environmental concerns. One way of loosely coupled inductive power transfer system is required to charge the battery of EVs. The fundamental principles of such systems are identical to transformers. In these systems, transformers with single-sided windings such as circular and ETD models, and double-sided windings such as rectangular and H-shaped models are simulated. These four models have been developed and compared for power transfer efficiency. Moreover, series and parallel capacitors compensation are used to make the equivalent circuit to be an ideal transfonner. A loosely coupled inductive power transfer system for EVs needs to have a large air gap, good to tolerance to misalignment, high efficiency, and compact. Based on these four criteria, different simulations of these four models have been realized to find the best one. Besides, to improve the power transfer efficiency, the electrical circuit, from voltage with normal frequency to stable direct voltage to high frequency voltage, has also been designed.
