This thesis presents the development of a high performance computational flow solver for numerical simulation of blood flows in prosthetic heart valves under physiological conditions and blood-leaflet interaction. A novel and efficient immersed object method (IOM) with overlapping grids (OG) incorporating the parallel-multigrid (MG) method is proposed in the present work. The three-dimensional finite-volume Navier-Stokes solver on unstructured tetrahedral grids using artificial compressibility approach and a higher-resolution upwind characteristics-based scheme is extended to implement the proposed numerical methods. Both unsteady flow and fluid-structure interaction are calculated with a matrix-free implicit dual time-stepping scheme.
