Abstract
The subject of this project is the field of medical robotics with a specific focus on the treatment of prostate cancer using minimal invasive techniques using robotics and computer technology. Prostate cancer is the most common internal (non-skin) cancer in men and the second most common cause of cancer deaths, after lung cancer. In Singapore, prostate cancer is the sixth common cancer (1988-1992, Singapore Cancer Registry). With the increase proportion of the elderly population and an improving life expectancy, prostate cancer is expected to become more prevalent with time. In addition, the desire to develop better forms of treatment of prostate cancer has been enormous.
