With the increasingly popularity of multi-touch interfaces, devices that support multi-touch are getting a surge in sales and becoming increasingly common. As users experience is being enhanced by the interaction multi-touch devices provide, research communities are starting to explore the different alternatives towards creating multi-touch screens, as the existing methods available on portable devices are difficult to recreate for home projects. In this project, optical based solution for multi-touch interaction, Laser Light Plane (LLP) is being used. A large multi-touch interface costs thousands of dollars and is very expensive if home users decide to own one. We hope that, through this project, more users would be able to own a large multi-touch device at an affordable cost, while not taking up much space in their homes due to the nature of optical devices being bulky. We aim to reduce the size of the project and make it more portable, and at the same time, expanding the scale of the project to one that is much bigger, preferably spanning across a wall. Stitching for the big screen also has to be considered and we hope to create one screen that could be seamlessly stitched. Furthermore, we hope to be able to find more applications that make full use of the space available. A new prototype has been designed and the new design incorporates a 100-inch screen, and 97% reduction with regards to the weight. Occlusion caused by blockage of camera view has been removed as well after placing the cameras at a more strategic position. Seamless stitching of dual screens is also accomplished in the new setup and sensitivity is maintained despite the huge size of the screen. New applications that interact with the screen are also being applied, such that we can optimize the usage of the bigger screen.
