This thesis investigates the use of a low cost microcontroller for remotely controlling a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) inverter. The objective is to implement a basic control system using a proportional plus integral (PI) controller, and an advanced control approach using sliding mode controller for the closed-loop control of the inverter. The microcontroller board has been used to implement the control functions to generate PWM signals and establish a switching scheme to control a single-phase inverter in a closed loop system.
