Yan Ge-Ling‟s series of Diaspora novels have garnered the attention of the literature world. As a Diaspora herself, Yan Ge-Ling‟s works on this genre have been known for its ability to resonate and touch the hearts of many people. Her unique identity has also certainly embodied her works with a unique cross-cultural significance. While she was living in America, Yan Ge Ling suffered from insomnia due to difficulties in adapting to the new environment. She received psychotherapy and which later got her interested in the field psychology. She became heavily influenced by Sigmund Freud. Traces of Freud‟s theories can be easily detected in most of her works. This thesis focuses on Freud‟s psychoanalytic theory to analyze the usage of space and the multiple antagonistic relationships between the different characters in The Landlady, in which in turn offers a more in-depth discussion on the concept of Diaspora.
