This thesis studies the Peranakan Chinese in Singapore through the perspectives of the Peranakan organisations and non-Peranakans. From formerly the Straits British Chinese Association, which aimed to consolidate the Peranakan Chinese political status and to promote their interests to present day Peranakan Association, which aims to promote Peranakan culture, the Association has realigned its objectives as the society develops. Although the Association has adopted various strategies and has organised numerous activities to promote the Peranakan culture, the Association still faced a challenge to attract younger members. On the other hand, the objectives of the Peranakan Association, Peranakan Museum and Baba House are similar, but they attract different groups of visitors and adopt different strategies to promote Peranakan culture. They each have their own strengths and weaknesses. In fact, these three organisations play a complementary role in allowing the public to understand the Peranakan culture in different ways. The survey showed that the respondents have low understanding and interests in the Peranakan Association, Peranakan Museum and Baba House, though they still have some basic understanding of the Peranakan culture. It is unpredictable whether this unique race and its culture will continue to develop, or will eventually die.
