This report aims to present the design and implementation of a grid-tie inverter. Grid-tie inverter was a critical connection between output of renewable source, such as solar panel and existing power grid. Therefore the research and development of grid-tie inverter to deal with environmental issue such as global warming that results from increasing in world’s population and demand for fossil fuels was necessary. The first part of the report would focus on the design the grid-tie inverter system. The grid-tie inverter system consisted of two parts namely the DC-DC boost converter to boost the input DC voltage to a higher voltage level and the DC-AC inverter for converting DC input to AC output. Besides that, the design of the DC-DC boost converter and DC-AC inverter, the design of the driver circuit for DC-DC boost converter and DC-AC inverter would also be included. The driver circuit for DC-DC boost converter consisted of two parts, the open-loop and the closed-loop driver. All the designs would be tested and simulated using the PSIM software to ensure reliably and feasibility of the system. The second part of the report would focus on the hardware implementation of the grid-tie inverter system. The circuitries of the open-loop DC-DC boost converter driver, closed-loop DC-DC boost converter driver and the DC-AC inverter driver would be built. The various circuitries would be tested out individually and in cascaded form with the various converter and inverter. Following that, the experimental results of the hardware implementation would be captured and analysed. Finally, the last part would be on the conclusion of the project and the skills acquired during the process of implementing this project. Following that would be some recommendations for future enhancement of the systems.
