Performance evaluation of digital communication systems over generalized-K fading channels

The ever increasing demand of wireless communication services with higher data rate and higher reliability has prompted for a better understanding and modeling of propa-gation environments. There is an active interest in finding a simpler composite model for characterizing the combined fading-shadowing effects, and thus simplifying the an-alytical evaluations. In this thesis, we study a new compound fading model termed as the generalized-K distribution, which simultaneously characterizes the fading and shadowing conditions, and also provide a simpler closed-form expression for the model. We study the characteristics of the new composite model, and analyze the performance of digital communication systems over compound fading channels.
