      Abstract
The Internet has the makings of an ideal medium for the dissemination of news and information on a global scale. It offers the advantages of instant updates, round-the-clock availability, a global perspective for current affairs and many different points of view. These advantages are especially important for a nation like Singapore, which is restricted by size, limited media resources and conservative censorship regulations. With the Singapore government’s strong focus on developing the nation into an Information Technology (IT) hub, the Internet is fast becoming a pervasive new mass medium for Singaporeans.
