Prediction of salinity intrusion in mixed estuaries
Date of Issue1996
School of Civil and Structural Engineering
The longitudinal, tidal averaged salinity distribution in a mixed estuary is represented by the one-dimensional convective diffusion (or dispersion) equation, which forms the starting point for salinity intrusion prediction. Normally, in the prediction of salinity intrusion in an estuary, solution of the dispersion equation often ends up having complicated models. The major disadvantage of these models is that they need a large amount of data on estuary geometry and tidal information before calibration can be carried out.
