This paper argues that a peaceful Korean reunification is highly improbable for two reasons. Firstly, historical animosities, ideological differences and diverse economic and political initiatives between the two Koreas are difficult obstacles to overcome. Secondly, the current status quo of a divided Korea suits the interests of the United States and China.
