Abstract
The nature of Taiwan identity under the authoritarian rule of KMT, remained under the framework of “one China” policy, however, took a different turn when Taiwan underwent democratization in late 1980s. The forces behind the rising tide of Taiwan nationalist sentiment are paradoxically constraining the island from declaring independence.
