The gas turbine engine provides one of the most exacting environments challenging material systems today. Engine components are subjected to rigorous mechanical loading conditions, high temperatures, and corrosive or erosive media. Protective coatings are deposited on engine components to enhance the durability and performance by various means of thermal spray processes. In the compressor area, erosion resistant coatings such as chromium carbide-nickel chromium are coated on the blades to minimize blade wear.
