Our research is motivated by the recent entry of Carrefour, the French hypermarket into the Singapore market. Intrigued by the novelty of the hypermarket concept, we sought to clarify our doubts regarding the retail format and to identify the success factors behind it. Subsequently , we found out that as companies expand overseas, their competitive advantage will vary according to the different environmental forces shaping the host country.
